How to choose the right equipment for earthworks

Four criteria to size the fleet for your job and avoid too little equipment, too much, or machines idle for lack of support.

Choosing the wrong equipment costs time and money: undersized machines delay the schedule, and oversized fleets make the job more expensive. These four criteria help you decide better.

1. Define the volume and the type of soil

The volume of material to move and its nature (loose soil, rock, wet material) determine whether you need excavators, crawler tractors or a combination with dump trucks for hauling.

2. Review access and terrain

Slope, road width and altitude limit which machines can arrive and work. If heavy equipment has to be moved, plan the lowboy trailer as well.

3. Calculate timelines and output

Match the job schedule with the output of each machine. Good planning avoids bottlenecks between excavation, loading, hauling and compaction.

4. Rent with an operator and maintenance support

A trained operator improves productivity and reduces risk. And a supplier with a field maintenance team helps keep machines from stopping because of a failure.

At Alejo Corp we rent excavators, backhoe loaders, crawler tractors, motor graders, rollers, dump trucks, lowboy trailers and generator sets, always with an operator and across Peru. Tell us about your job and we will help you size the fleet.
